Now I've Seen it All

While reading the headlines the other day on CNN.com I saw this:

Dobbs: Big media hide truth about immigration

Lou Dobbs says Big Media is hiding the truth about immigration. Now I haven't read the commentary Dobbs wrote because I am still floored by the headline.

Lou, buddy, YOU ARE THE BIG MEDIA.

Maybe there is a reasonable explanation like maybe Lou Dobbs forgot that he was part of CNN which IS part of big media. Maybe he thinks big media is something out there somewhere but not where he is.

Of course I give Lou Dobbs credit for speaking out on a subject he is passionate about and criticizing his colleagues.

It is still pretty damn unbelievable especially when you scroll to the bottom of the commentary and see this:

The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of the writer.

To the near post with venom

The FYI on my first trip overseas and my first work trip overseas.

It was cool.

I don't know how much I should worry about getting use to staying in 5 star hotels and ordering room service though. I know, cry me a river right?

Manchester, England was a pretty cool town. Seemed like any major metropolitan area in the USA. Plenty of places to eat, shop and drink. I think they had enough brick in that town to build a bridge to Canada though.

The most interesting part, running into members of Manchester United at the hotel and venue. I ran into Wayne Rooney at the hotel bar, nearly got ran over by Edwin Van Der Sar the staring Keeper while getting onto the elevator and got to get my picture taken with Cristiano Ronaldo at the MEN Arena as he waited to meet my Dana White.

All in all a pretty good trip. A lot of work things didn't go so well but then again it was our first trip overseas.

In June I am going to Belfast, Northern Ireland. After I go to Florida again.

--The title is something I heard an announcer say this evening while watching the Champions League match between Chelsea and Liverpool.

See Ya Later Kurt

Kurt Vonnegut died the other day at 84. He suffered brain injuries after a recent fall.

I first got introduced to Vonnegut through Jerry and Liz. As a graduation gift they game me a 12 pack of Corona and "Breakfast of Champions" by Vonnegut. I don't know what they were trying to say but in any event I drank the beer first.

"Breakfast of Champions" is still one of the funniest books I've ever read. I wasn't much of a reader of books before "Champions" but afterwards I became an avid reader.

I read a few other Vonnegut novels like "Player Piano" and "Cat's Cradle" but "Breakfast of Champions" is still one of my favorites.

You'll be missed Mr. Vonnegut.

Big Country and Pond Crossing

Last week it was back to Texas. In this case Houston, Texas for an event. Next week it's off to Manchester, England.

That's right. England.

My first ever trip overseas and it's for work. People keep asking me if I'm excited and I have to admit I am a little but I am also stressing.

To go work overseas I have to pretty much register my gear, be aware of weight limits, and take only one carry on bag etc.

Add in the fact that I am coming off an event and still have a lot to do and I'm pretty much a stress ball.

Did I mention I need to find plugs to the UK so I can actually operate my gear?

I hear Manchester UTD is playing the day of our event there. Bummer.

But hey, I'm going to England on business. What are you doing?

That Blonde Chick is a Guy?

"Blades of Glory"...I haven't laughed that hard during a movie since "Shaun of the Dead". I laughed hard during "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" was funny, in fact it was funny as hell, but I think "Blades of Glory" was funnier.

I'm not going to ruin it for those of you who haven't seen it but the first pairs dance routine...my side hurts. All the better, they did it to that Aerosmith song from "Armageddon." Yes, two men in tights skating to the theme song from "Armageddon".

Why didn't someone think of this earlier!

Go see it. It's hiralious.
