Wind

I've lived in various places and other than a tropical storm, hurricane, or a severe thunderstorm have I ever heard wind like this.

Las Vegas for natural reasons has amazing wind. It is fast, striking, and during the winter can get you down to the bone.

Vegas is a relatively small valley nearly surrounded by mountains. Depending on what part of town you're on the wind can really whack you.

On Christmas Eve 2007 it is screaming off the mountains and rattling windows. This is the second time in about 4 days it has been this harsh.

So from now on when you think of Las Vegas put the wind on the list.

Oblivion With Bells

Underworld is one of the most intriguing bands around. First they started off as a electro rock band then transformed itself into a techno group. Now they've gone another route, an ambient tag team.

Oblivion with Bells is Underworld's second album without DJ Dave Emerson. Since Emerson left the outfit they have steadily gone from abstract techno to a more ambient sound.

Bells is more ambient than anything they've done to date but it still has some kick to it. Not a typical Underworld Born Slippy from Trainspotting kick but a kick none the less. The kick is more of a down tempo techno rock. Tracks like Ring Road and Best Mamgu Ever are what I'm talking about.

Crocodile and Beautiful Burnout are a little deceiving. They give you the impression that Underworld went back to their Second Toughest in the Infants sound. This is not true. Close but not true.

Overall this is not a bad Underworld record. It's much better than their last outing and in this day and age that's actually better than average.

Hits and 'Roids

Ok so I get to weigh in on the baseball or steroids. Senator Mitchell's report (no I haven't read it) says a whole bunch of folks used roids including Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds (shocker) and Jason Giambi (who already sort of admitted it) among others.

To be honest, this report sounds like a giant Congressional investigation where there is a lot of saber rattling and no action. No current major leaguers talked to Mitchell except Giambi who was put under pressure to do so. His report has no consequences and he didn't call for any right now unless the case was really, really bad. Now, after the report, Major League Baseball now wants to talk with these people and dat da da....Congress is going to have a hearing!

Seriously, is baseball run by a team of monkey's?

Baseball players used steroids, my God!....and in other news baseball attendance is up and A-Rod just signed a new 10 year deal worth $275 million on the same day the Mitchell report came out.

God you have to love this sport.

To be honest, I could care less about this story. I still consider myself a former baseball fan because of the strike of 1994 when they players and owners decided that a labor dispute was more important than the World Series. Up until that point the World Series had been played through wars, disasters, you name it. But the players and owners couldn't see eye-to-eye and cancelled the season.

They put themselves in front of the game.

Now they're doing it again. With all of this steroid crap and massive contracts these guys seem to forget about the game. Take a bat, a glove, and a ball and a group of friends and play a game. That's all it is...a game.

Daily dose of "Holy Sh*t"

For some reason I always come across some random story about kids and animals. You know, the two things you should avoid if you are ever doing a movie, tv show, commercial or just about any sort of visual production for that matter.

Anyway

A 5 year old boy who is a descendant of Davy Crockett (yes that Davy Crockett) killed a 445 lbs black bear.

Damn.

I saw another story about a 2 year old boy in Australia who was saved from drowing by two dogs.

Ain't that some shit?
