11212

That his how many miles I traveled in about two weeks. Vegas to Newark to Birmingham, UK back to Newark to Chicago to Vegas.

11212 miles.

In coach.

I was watching an interview with Dexter Filkins on Charlie Rose one night and he talked about going from a war zone to home. He compared it to the begriming of Apocalypse Now when Martin Sheen is alone drinking and his voice over says, 'whenever I was in the jungle all I could think about was home and when I was home all I could think about was to getting back into the jungle.'

I'm no soldier and this is no war zone but I see the comparison. This occurred to me either on a plane or in a hotel room somewhere spending $20 for a chicken salad.

I like to travel. I like to work. Besides that I don't know anymore what I like and what I don't. I don't like some things because I hear other people complain or bitch because they and I think we should.

Someday's you wake up and the day goes well. Other times you wake up and should have just stayed in bed.

I...AM MINE

I have no idea have no idea how many miles I’ve flown but I’m sure it’s been a lot.

I went from Las Vegas to Newark to Birmingham, England somewhere between Oct. 12th and 13th. Left there for Chicago on the 20th and have been at O’Hare airport outside Chicago ever since.

I’m tired. In all honesty I want to do my job and go above and beyond but I’d also like to go home and not spend $4.75 for a 12oz Starbucks. Wait you always spend that...

The big Mac

Some people don't know of McCain's time as a POW. Others are tired of hearing about it. I like the perspective it's given him when it comes to the treatment of detainees and more importantly his ideas on service.  He wants retiree's to be more involved in teaching, and mentoring. Young people required to do some kind of service and he wants to get more people overseas to experience different cultures.

That being said, I've always agreed with him on this and it's one of the reasons I respect him as a person. But as we weather this economic crisis is he the best guy around to handle it?

Some of his economic plan sounds like typical GOP stuff. More corporate based which isn't bad but it's a tough sell especially when you've got nimrods like Anderson (I use to host 'The Mole') Cooper out there going, 'we're going to show you who's to blame for this mess'. Hey Cooper, why don't we just lynch' em at the courthouse while we're at it. Anyway I digress. In McCain's innovation tax policy section he would permanently knock out any Internet tax and ban new cell phone taxes. Not bad ideas. They seem logical and something that could get passed quickly but I haven't seen anything about promoting ubiquitous broadband or getting better speeds to rural areas. I do like lowering the corporate tax rate although I believe it should still be one of the highest around.

McCain sees globalization as an opportunity and that tells me one thing, he's listened to people like Jim Owens the CEO of CAT, Fred Smith the CEO and Founder of FEDEX, and John Chambers the CEO of Cisco Systems and one of the longest running CEO's in American Business. This is a good thing. These three companies are all over the globe yet maintain their headquarters in the Midwest, South, and West Coast respectively. And personally these are three CEO's I got a lot of respect for.

The Immediate Relief section is hit and miss. It claims that McCain will make the dollar stronger and that he'll tell oil producing countries that we won't rely on them forever. How he plans to do this is not said. I guess harsh language will be involved. If this means that McCain is leaning toward replacing Ben Bernake at the FED then I think that's a mistake. That's like me telling Peyton Manning what play to call. His call to repeal taxes on ethanol is not a good idea in my view. The economic downturn is the only thing keeping people from talking about the rising costs of food worldwide that's destroying third world countries. Part of that is caused by this ethanol fascination which in the end will not solve the problem of reliance on foreign oil. Oh wait, McCain's going to tell those countries and the oil speculators that he means business by using harsh language.

McCain has some good positions economically but it's not a big change. I don't a lower corporate tax rate would get passed if he were elected and his statement's about the Paulson Bailout plan make me wonder if he really understands what's happening with the credit market.

That's something I haven't touched on a lot. This economic crisis. Maybe I'll have a guest blogger on this subject. But in the end folks, it's not a giant conspiracy.

Obamamama

Look, I haven't been following the election. I think it's great that either a black man will be President or a woman will be Vice President. I think Obama gives out hope and I think McCain has proven his courage and independence. Personally I think an Obama McCain ticket would be great.

In the end however you have to choose one, so I start with Obama.

Obama has some good ideas. However some of his ideas are the same old fear mongering. Example, his economic plan includes a "windfall profits tax" on oil companies. Why? Exxon has an operating profit margin of 15.72%. Google has an operating margin of 30.02%. Granted Exxon beats Google in year-over-year growth and in quarterly revenue growth. However Exxon also employ's 107,000 plus people while Google employs about 20,000. Where's our "windfall search engine tax"?

Obama wants to give tax breaks to companies that keep jobs in America and pays them a good wage. Well, why not give tax breaks to foreign companies who bring jobs here? And what is a good wage? No one I know is getting paid enough except for yours truly.

I always think of the big 3 Detroit automakers when politicians talk about this jobs going overseas bit. Ford, GM and Chrysler, they're doing just awesome aren't they! They took a bath on protecting the American worker. Paying massive amounts for healthcare and pensions. Now they need government loans that some think they may default on so that they can compete with other car makers from overseas. Meanwhile the "foreign" car makers like Honda and Toyota have been opening plants and bringing jobs to North America. Look at BMW. Their only foreign plant, is in Spartanburg, SC. That's right, a German company brought manufacturing jobs to America. Shocking I know.

Deploy Next-Generation Broadband: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we can get broadband to every community in America through a combination of reform of the Universal Service Fund, better use of the nation's wireless spectrum, promotion of next-generation facilities, technologies and applications, and new tax and loan incentives.

The above is in the Obama and Biden economic plan. Granted it's a start but could it be anymore vague?

I don't know. I like some of their economic plan but not all of it. I think their "vision" is still based in an industrialized economy with dashes of a global information one. It seems written by politicians. It tries to hard to satisfy everyone.

In the end, Obama's recent statement's on the bailout plan show me that he is thinking about this problem a little and that he realizes the severity of the current economic crisis.
